Fresh Ground

Fresh Ground

I was working at a Christian radio station when I received a call.  The lady on the other end was in the hospital just up the street. She requested a visitor and someone to pray with her. She asked me to come. Me?  Why me?  Not me, she means she wants me to ask a pastor to come to her bedside, right?  No, she asked me.

Moments after we hung up and I said I would go to see her, our Father John came in to record his inspirational moments on the air. I explained to Father John the phone call. I told him he needed to go see this young woman; she desperately needs him.  His response was; “No.”  What? How can you say no? He explained the call came for me and if he went I would lose out on something more important……growth.  Come on now, he was trained for this kind of work; not me.

Father John explained that God calls and then equips those who are willing to go.  So I went. I had no idea what was going to happen. I had no idea what I was going to say. Why me? Why send me Lord?

I don’t remember everything of that visit; her name, the room number, day or time of day, the full conversation or the specific prayer said. I only remember I spoke life to her and prayed for her. I was preparing to leave when I gave her a hug and she began crying on my shoulder.

I walked away standing tall, refreshed, and felt different on the inside. I can’t explain it, but it was peaceful.  Father John was still in the recording studio when I returned to the office. He asked about the details of my visit.  I remember him being filled with joy and could see his understanding on his face, although I didn’t understand this at all.

In the past 3 months I have stepped on new soil. I am working on fresh ground the same way I did five years ago.  Someone else may understand what I am experiencing; I only know it is growth.  I choose to be the best me that I can be, believe in my capabilities and show off the God that lives within me.  I can only decrease to allow God to increase and use me now the same way he did in that hospital room.

Each day we get out of bed, we have a new fresh ground to step on. We can either hit the floor with our feet in a disgusted, dark and non-flavorful attitude or we can step out with a warm, rich, fragrant, stimulating flavorful attitude. It’s up to us to decide how we respond to the situations that are placed before us.

Just for today, please take a moment to examine your attitude, words you speak and be the BEST you that YOU can be.
